Movement is Self-Care!

Movement is one of the pillars on which health is built. Movement helps people continue to stay mobile. When you move, you feel good. When you feel good, you want to keep it up.

Now, this doesn’t mean you do a crazy hard workout and then feel like shit because you have muscle soreness. I’m talking about any workouts, including low impact.

Why don’t more people talk about the benefits for every person of low impact? Is it because they aren’t sexy or their platforms aren’t loud enough or do we not give a shit about a quiet walk or yoga? Probably a little bit of all 3.

When you’re out of shape, the last thing you want is to feel more out of shape, which exercise sometimes can do. But, you have to start somewhere.

You can be thin and still not have range of motion and have muscle atrophy. If you can’t pick something off the ground without being in pain. If you can’t do the regular day to day tasks, that's going to have a strain on your mental health, which might be the reason your daily movements have suffered in the first place.

It’s kind of like a marriage between mental and physical health. They both have to have their own space, but come together to make your body function properly.

Working on both is important, but I feel like the physical can have such an effect on the mind that it should be part of your self-care regime.

Who doesn’t like to feel strong and accomplished either? Not that every workout you will feel that. Trust me, in some workouts you feel like shit because you didn’t get nail a lift or you could have done better.

Movement needs to be a part of your self-care routine. A lot of people think self-care is pampering yourself or cutting negative people out of your life, which it is, too. But, physical activity should be a part of that. It will only enhance what you already are doing.

Movement is self-care. By moving, you are caring for yourself. Your best self. The one who is happy and beautiful.

Meet Me!

Hey, there! Let me introduce myself. I’m Lisa Friedland, born and raised in Michigan and always had a soft spot for fitness and health. I used to work out to my mom’s old aerobic videos and I had my own videos, say hello to The Grind Workout in junior high and high school. Honestly, I would still rock out that workout if it wasn’t on VHS. I’ve looked into becoming a personal trainer multiple times (I’m working on that currently, stay tuned).

I’ve done several different diet/fitness programs, Weight Watchers, personal training with multiple trainers, low carb, cleanses, shakes, etc. Nothing ever really stuck probably because I love to switch it up and I get bored easily. But, I was always doing something, so I stayed relatively healthy over the years.

Well, that was until about 2015, I was two years into owning a health and wellness business, yet I hadn’t done a workout since the start of said business. I had gained 30 lbs and my hip and back were always killing me. Mind you, I was 34 years old and had no injuries. I should have been feeling great. But, yet I was out of shape, tired, and hurting. Something had to change.

I began working out with a new trainer and adding water and supplements into my routine. I lost 10 pounds right away and felt energized, physically, and mentally better. The pain in my hip and back lessened as I got stronger. I just felt younger and more full of life adding movement and vitamins to my body.

And, I have been working out and attempting to change my diet one bite at a time (I love food, what else can I say?) ever since then. I am here to share my thoughts, failures, and successes in health and wellness with all of you, in the hopes that maybe someone out there won’t feel like they are alone, helpless and that they have to overhaul their entire life to make changes to get healthier and feel better.
